Most respondents check their doors (61%), and windows (58%) are locked before setting sail. Half ensure no valuables are visible from outside the property.
Despite these precautions, one in 10 homeowners still leaves a key under a doormat or plant pot when going on holiday. While the purpose is to let trusted neighbours access the property, doing so can also give easy access to burglars.
Indeed, 14% of respondents have previously been burgled, with an additional 11% having experienced an attempted burglary. If you’re getting away this September, make sure to protect your home; lock, check and leave all keys out of burglars’ reach!
